Random Five

1. Today Kyndal and I will complete/completed (depending on when you read this) the 21 Day Fix! During these past three weeks we have been working out to the 21 Day Fix videos 6 days a week and tracking our calories and nutritional values on MyFitnessPal, staying under our calorie goals almost every single day (with the exception of one cheat day for each of us and Easter). The difference between our abilities on Day 1 and Day 21 is amazing! We are both in so much better shape now and are so much stronger! We each lost a little bit of weight and definitely toned up our mid-sections and legs. But we aren't stopping here! On Monday we are going to start a second round of the routines. We love them that much!

2. I will not be jumping on the Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper bandwagon. Gads! I know! Why, you might wonder? Well, this is one of those times where my nonconformist attitude sees an extreme fad that makes me turn the other way. I only watched a couple of episodes of the show and, although they were entertaining enough, I just didn't get all the hype. But apparently the rest of the world gets it because people are going cray cray for the Gaines family, their show, and their products. I am sad that their marriage and children and picture perfect farm have been put so high on a pedestal that may only lead to a hard fall to the ground. We have seen it happen time and time again. At some point the world will turn on them. I actually wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Although I am sure they are lovely, genuine people with quite a talent for fixing up old homes, I feel a quickening in my spirit to not follow along. I don't judge you if you do; I just won't be joining you.

3. I have had two unrelated specialist appointments in two days, one yesterday and one this afternoon. The first one may require a minor surgery in the next few months, and I am hoping that the other shows nothing of concern. I would appreciate your prayers today as I have a suspect area on my nose examined.

4. Today I am mailing graduation announcements for Dawson and wedding invites for Kyndal. The two events will be happening within 6 days of each other.

5. Our town's iconic (circa 1950's) Dairy Queen reopened a few weeks ago. But since Kyndal and I have been in the middle of the 21 Day Fix, we have not yet gone. We gets lots of burgers, foot longs, and ice creams throughout the summer. My reward for completing the Fix was a double cheeseburger with everything. That reward will happen today. Squeallllll!!!!!! (The ironic part is that I will probably feel really gross after I eat it because I have eaten so healthy the last three weeks and my body is not used to the grease and unhealthy fats. But I'm willing to give it a shot.)

  1. I hope your appointments go well. I also had a spot on my nose checked last week and they did a biopsy, as well as another on my back. Still waiting on the results from that one. Too much sun worshipping in my younger days. I don't go out in the sun anymore other than to walk for exercise and rarely if ever swim.
    Blessings

    1. Not gonna lie .. that burger was pretty awesome!!! My test results were good. I had a precancerous spot on my nose that I had frozen off in the office. No need for any further treatment, just yearly followups and paying attention to my body.

We all know that in this crazy world of homeschooling, we need all the (adult) support we can get. Please leave a comment if you so wish!

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

A New Year, the Same Me

Happy 2019! It is that day of the year where everybody is up extra early starting their new exercise routine, eating only healthy foods, cracking open the pages of a new planner and Bible study, and debuting their Word for the year. You chuckle or roll your eyes, but you are doing at least three of these things. By the way, so am I. So let's start with the Word of the Year. Mine this year is Lagom. It's the Swedish word for "not too little, not too much, just right". It's a concept of being, doing or having just enough. So let's rewind to last New Year's Day. My Word was Might. And that's how I planned to tackle my year. And, I did. I worked out hard, I mommed hard, I traveled hard, I worked hard. And it was a good season. It prepared the way for this year. I accepted the Challenge I set for myself and succeeded. But, I don't need to keep up that pace. I am at a place in my life where I can kind of sit back and enjoy my life without f...

Science Sunday ~ Hmmm ... Let Me Think About It!

This week in our study of the Human Body , Brynne moved on to the Nervous System . Our first stop was a Pamela Hill Nettleton book called, Think, Think, Think: Learning About Your Brain . As part of our discussions about the brain , and the fact that it's the BOSS of the body, we discussed the importance of the spinal cord . We did a hands on spinal cord project by alternating gummy Life Savers and wagon wheel pasta on a pipe cleaner. We talked about why there was the "squishy" stuff in between the vertebra and how the back can bend and sway because of it. We completed "The Brynne" by adding the stomach, small intestine and large intestine, from our study last week of the Digestive System (although I just realized I have the large intestine coming out of the stomach, when the small intestine should be) and the brain and spinal cord. We are now done talking about the parts of the body and will conclude our study of the Human Body with a two-day unit ...
