Wednesday Hodgepodge

In honor of the date .... when were you last sent on a 'fool's errand'?

Getting a prescription filled this week. I called the doctor a day before it ran out to see if it could be refilled or if an appointment would be necessary. They called me back on my old number so I didn't get the call. I called them as I was walking out the door the next day to go run errands to make sure the script had been called in (because I get our prescriptions at a pharmacy 20 miles away and I was going that day). I was told I would have to have an appointment to refill ... but they were out of appointments for that day ... which is why I called the day before. So they called me in enough of the prescription to get through until the appointment I had to make on Monday. I went to the appointment on Monday, to basically be there long enough to say, 'yeah, this same thing that has been taken for the past 6 years still works', pay my co-pay, and drive again to the town to pick up the prescription. There was also to be another prescription called in with it for an unrelated issue. I stood in line to pick up said prescriptions to find out they had only called in one of them. So they had to call the doctor to get the other called in. So I had to wait another 20 minutes for it to be filled. In the meantime I roamed around the store and spent more money than I had intended. Conspiracy? Hmmm ....

Peter Rabbit, Bugs Bunny, The Energizer Bunny, The Easter Bunny, Rabbit (Pooh's friend), White Rabbit (of Wonderland fame), or the Trix Rabbit ... which of these 'famous' rabbits can you best relate to right now?

Definitely the Easter Bunny. With four kids and two others, and baskets to be filled, I am hopping to and fro trying to accomplish it by this weekend. That's hard to do when you always have at least one of them with you.

When did you last find yourself scrambling to get something done? Explain.

That's pretty much my life all the time. I am a grand procrastinator so I always seem to put things off to the last minute. Halloween costumes are being finished the hours before trick-or-treating, the vacuum is being slung through the living room as someone is pulling up for a scheduled visit, and see previous question about the Easter Bunny.

Last time you were up at the literal crack of dawn? Why? Last time you stayed up all night? Why?

That would have been two nights ago, errr .... early morning, when the Tooth Fairy was doing her job. That's a tricky one the older they get. But she was successful and didn't even get caught this time! The next time will be tomorrow morning when I am up at 4:30 a.m. to get ready to leave my house by 5:15 a.m. to drive two hours to go to yet another child support hearing (two .. years ... later ......). Sigh. Oh, and I don't stay up all night unless there is a sick kid in the house. This mama requires her sleep! I guess the last time I did was on an overnight drive to Florida with my mom and the kids.

Crack a book, crack a bottle, crack a joke, crack an egg ... which one have you done most recently?

I crack a lot of eggs for meals. They are my go-to fat item for eating nutritionally balanced. I haven't cracked my book open in several days and that needs to be remedied. With all we have going on right now (sports, upcoming 5K, winding down school year, prom, graduation, wedding, vacation), I might need to crack open a bottle.

What's your favorite part of a typical weekend? Tell us why that's so.

Having everyone here all weekend for meals and watching movies or hanging out. But then equally as awesome is at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday nights when everybody leaves and I am left laying on the couch by myself watching some t.v.

What's something I'd find on a bookshelf in your home? Other than a book I mean!

Video games. Definitely video games. And then there are your typical photographs, pretties, candles, etc. And books.

Insert your own random thought here.

Great article right HERE about hygge. I have finally found
a word for what it is I am always seeking.

  1. Oh that whole prescription thing sounds aggravating. I'm a procrastinator too, not always, but often. I did get my Easter baskets done early knowing they had to be shipped. I had my hubs with me and he was slightly horrified at what that whole endeavour cost : ) Happy Easter!

We all know that in this crazy world of homeschooling, we need all the (adult) support we can get. Please leave a comment if you so wish!

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

A New Year, the Same Me

Happy 2019! It is that day of the year where everybody is up extra early starting their new exercise routine, eating only healthy foods, cracking open the pages of a new planner and Bible study, and debuting their Word for the year. You chuckle or roll your eyes, but you are doing at least three of these things. By the way, so am I. So let's start with the Word of the Year. Mine this year is Lagom. It's the Swedish word for "not too little, not too much, just right". It's a concept of being, doing or having just enough. So let's rewind to last New Year's Day. My Word was Might. And that's how I planned to tackle my year. And, I did. I worked out hard, I mommed hard, I traveled hard, I worked hard. And it was a good season. It prepared the way for this year. I accepted the Challenge I set for myself and succeeded. But, I don't need to keep up that pace. I am at a place in my life where I can kind of sit back and enjoy my life without f...

Science Sunday ~ Hmmm ... Let Me Think About It!

This week in our study of the Human Body , Brynne moved on to the Nervous System . Our first stop was a Pamela Hill Nettleton book called, Think, Think, Think: Learning About Your Brain . As part of our discussions about the brain , and the fact that it's the BOSS of the body, we discussed the importance of the spinal cord . We did a hands on spinal cord project by alternating gummy Life Savers and wagon wheel pasta on a pipe cleaner. We talked about why there was the "squishy" stuff in between the vertebra and how the back can bend and sway because of it. We completed "The Brynne" by adding the stomach, small intestine and large intestine, from our study last week of the Digestive System (although I just realized I have the large intestine coming out of the stomach, when the small intestine should be) and the brain and spinal cord. We are now done talking about the parts of the body and will conclude our study of the Human Body with a two-day unit ...
