1. Oh, I am SO tired of seeing nothing but sorority posts on social media! I am glad to see all these girls having fun at college ... but where are the textbooks? Am I the only one wondering if these girls are participating in anything educational? Oh, but they have found their family. Geez.

2. Dawson completed his first week of college. To say that he did so without a ridiculous amount of moaning and groaning would be a complete lie. For the first time in his life, and I mean IN HIS LIFE, he had to actually sit down, more than once, and do homework! He was appalled that he has a paper due on Monday ... in Comp class! I sure hope we make it without one of us bashing our head against a brick wall. I am thinking I might be the first.

3. Today is our last regular day before we start back to school on Monday. There is weeping and gnashing of teeth going on around this house. But it is time. My dear little ones, it is time.

4. We have finally done it! After three years of living apart the majority of the time, Rick is making the move to work remote at our home in Missouri part-time. We have worked out a trial run schedule for his company to get us through the end of the year. I am sure the system will have to be tweaked and such, but so far it is agreeable to everybody. He will be spending longer stretches of time here with more time during the week. This will allow him to participate in more of the kids sports and activities. We have made him a den in the dining nook in our kitchen which has served as our back entryway. It's just the right size for a nice desk and all of his office supplies, and gives him a little privacy away from the general hub bub of the living and dining room. Although we will all have some adjusting to do, us getting used to him being here while we do schoolwork and him getting used to us being here while he is working, I think it's going to be so great for our family.

5. It's been a crazy couple of weeks for our whole family in regard to doctor and dentist appointments. We have one more doctor appointment to get in before the month's end. And it's a good one ....

    Praying for you all as you begin school! Great news on your husbands job situation. What a blessing it will be to have him home more. A GOOD doctor appointment? Is there such a thing? ;)

    Good doctors appt is it a grandbaby?? Or was that a sarcastic good one? Glad Rick is going to be working from home some, its been a long time coming and I know you guys are so ready for it and excited! :)

    My oldest son started college a couple of weeks ago. The comment that is on repeat at our house is, "All I do is Statistics. We are moving at a really fast pace." Yep! Welcome to college. I really need him to pass this class, so he doesn't have to take it again :).

    Glad to hear that your husband is going to be able to work remotely from your home.

A New Year, the Same Me

Happy 2019! It is that day of the year where everybody is up extra early starting their new exercise routine, eating only healthy foods, cracking open the pages of a new planner and Bible study, and debuting their Word for the year. You chuckle or roll your eyes, but you are doing at least three of these things. By the way, so am I. So let's start with the Word of the Year. Mine this year is Lagom. It's the Swedish word for "not too little, not too much, just right". It's a concept of being, doing or having just enough. So let's rewind to last New Year's Day. My Word was Might. And that's how I planned to tackle my year. And, I did. I worked out hard, I mommed hard, I traveled hard, I worked hard. And it was a good season. It prepared the way for this year. Science Sunday ~ Hmmm ... Let Me Think About It!

This week in our study of the Human Body , Brynne moved on to the Nervous System . Our first stop was a Pamela Hill Nettleton book called, Think, Think, Think: Learning About Your Brain . As part of our discussions about the brain , and the fact that it's the BOSS of the body, we discussed the importance of the spinal cord . We did a hands on spinal cord project by alternating gummy Life Savers and wagon wheel pasta on a pipe cleaner. We talked about why there was the "squishy" stuff in between the vertebra and how the back can bend and sway because of it. We completed "The Brynne" by adding the stomach, small intestine and large intestine, from our study last week of the Digestive System (although I just realized I have the large intestine coming out of the stomach, when the small intestine should be) and the brain and spinal cord. We are now done talking about the parts of the body and will conclude our study of the Human Body with a two-day unit ...
