This is our first year homeschooling. It is quite honestly nothing I ever thought we would do. You can read all about our reasons to bring home our son, Dawson, after 8 years of public school, here.

We believe strongly in assessing each of our children individually and making decisions based on what is best for each one. At the beginning of school Dawson was the only one we had home. Within five weeks we brought home our youngest child, Brynne, for completely different reasons. You can read about those reasons here.

Two of our children are still in public school. They will stay that way unless and until we decide it would be best to bring them home. Honestly our oldest would die a slow death if she wasn't in school. She's a sophomore. Our third child is in the 1st grade and has some special needs that he gets excellent special services for at school. Besides, he loves it there.

Anyway, I have found that homeschooling is the funnest thing I have ever done in my life! I love it! I feel like I am a little girl getting to play school every day. And I have wonderful students! I have never experienced so much joy as I do in seeing my children learn. And I have learned so much myself. I am a schedule and order freak, so it has surprised me that I am leaning toward a Charlotte Mason-ish style of homeschooling. I know that we will continue to evolve in our homeschooling journey. Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

A New Year, the Same Me

Happy 2019! It is that day of the year where everybody is up extra early starting their new exercise routine, eating only healthy foods, cracking open the pages of a new planner and Bible study, and debuting their Word for the year. You chuckle or roll your eyes, but you are doing at least three of these things. By the way, so am I. So let's start with the Word of the Year. Mine this year is Lagom. It's the Swedish word for "not too little, not too much, just right". It's a concept of being, doing or having just enough. So let's rewind to last New Year's Day. My Word was Might. And that's how I planned to tackle my year. And, I did. I worked out hard, I mommed hard, I traveled hard, I worked hard. And it was a good season. It prepared the way for this year.
