It's An Honor Being Nominated!

I was nominated for Best NEW Homeschool Blog at the The Homeschool Post 2010 Blog Awards!
What an honor!

If you would like to vote for me, go here. Scroll to the bottom and click on the dot next to Journey to Excellence and then go down and click "Vote". Tell your friends to vote, too!

And then go vote in one of the other 19 categories, or all of them for that matter. Many of my favorite homeschool blogs have been nominated.

It truly is an honor just to be nominated!

If you are stopping by from The Homeschool Post, Welcome!

This is our first year homeschooling. It is quite honestly nothing I ever thought we would do. You can read all about our reasons to bring home our son, Dawson, after 8 years of public school, here.

We believe strongly in assessing each of our children individually and making decisions based on what is best for each one. At the beginning of school Dawson was the only one we had home. Within five weeks we brought home our youngest child, Brynne, for completely different reasons. You can read about those reasons here.

Two of our children are still in public school. They will stay that way unless and until we decide it would be best to bring them home. Honestly our oldest would die a slow death if she wasn't in school. She's a sophomore. Our third child is in the 1st grade and has some special needs that he gets excellent special services for at school. Besides, he loves it there.

Anyway, I have found that homeschooling is the funnest thing I have ever done in my life! I love it! I feel like I am a little girl getting to play school every day. And I have wonderful students! I have never experienced so much joy as I do in seeing my children learn. And I have learned so much myself. I am a schedule and order freak, so it has surprised me that I am leaning toward a Charlotte Mason-ish style of homeschooling. I know that we will continue to evolve in our homeschooling journey. I hope that you will sign on to follow it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

A Thomas Jefferson Education "This Week in History" ~ Schoolhouse Review

Talk about a GOLD MINE! A Thomas Jefferson Education's This Week in History by Rachel DeMille is her "labor of love" ... and I absolutely LOVE it! " This Week in History is a daily resource that brings your home school or classroom to life." For just $9.99 per month, you can log onto TJEd.com and click the "This Week in History" link to obtain many, many, many resources tied to specific events that occurred in the upcoming week in history. Or even better, you can receive the summaries and links to ALL resources right in your email Inbox each week! It doesn't get any easier than that! What does this really look like in real life? Each week, I receive an email from Rachel DeMille that sets out each date of the coming week. Under the date, there are listed anywhere from one to several events that occurred in history on that date. THEN there are ALL kinds of things to do related to that event, such as books to read, websites to visit, ac...

A New Year, the Same Me

Happy 2019! It is that day of the year where everybody is up extra early starting their new exercise routine, eating only healthy foods, cracking open the pages of a new planner and Bible study, and debuting their Word for the year. You chuckle or roll your eyes, but you are doing at least three of these things. By the way, so am I. So let's start with the Word of the Year. Mine this year is Lagom. It's the Swedish word for "not too little, not too much, just right". It's a concept of being, doing or having just enough. So let's rewind to last New Year's Day. My Word was Might. And that's how I planned to tackle my year. And, I did. I worked out hard, I mommed hard, I traveled hard, I worked hard. And it was a good season. It prepared the way for this year. I accepted the Challenge I set for myself and succeeded. But, I don't need to keep up that pace. I am at a place in my life where I can kind of sit back and enjoy my life without f...
