Random 5 on Friday

1. Yesterday we had a brief visit from my sister-in-law Shawna and 3 year old niece Bell. The visit was too short but we got a whole lot of Bell in that amount of time. She is such a spunky fun little girl and absolutely adorable! Makes me miss my brother when he was that age because she is a whole lot like him.





2. Easter has snuck up on us this year and I am less than prepared. I think we might color some eggs tonight. Everyone will be gone on Sunday except for Eli, Brynne, and I so we have plans to go to Sunday school, hunt our eggs, and then go out to dinner Sunday evening. No cooking for me. That's nice!

3. We get to find out the sex of Collin and Kyndal's baby on Wednesday! I am very excited to find out if my grandbaby will be a boy or a girl. I am Team Blue all the way!

4. The stormyish weather this week has had my joints in a snit. Man, I have have been achy all week.

5. In 9 days my friend Megan and I will be making the trip south with our four kids. We are going to Atlanta to go on the CNN Student News tour, driving through Selma, Alabama (since the kids and I studied the MLK, Jr., march that occurred there), spending 5 full days in Pensacola at my parents' house, going to New Orleans to visit the National WWII Museum, and then heading home. It will be a full trip but lots of fun! I am especially looking forward to those 5 days in Pensacola and the stack of books I am taking along.

We found our groove with math this year. I found a curriculum that both of the kids respond well to and seem to enjoy (as much as one can enjoy math). We have spent the whole year learning the ins and outs of multiplication and were just a few lessons away from being ready to move onto the next year-long level on division. And then an opportunity to review the 12 Month Family Plan from  CTC Math became available. To be honest, I wasn't very enthusiastic. I mean, why mess with the methods that have worked so well? When I was chosen to review the product I didn't go into it with the level of enthusiasm that it deserved. We have been using a dvd/workbook curriculum with great success. Veritas Press Self-Paced History: Old Testament and Ancient Egypt (Schoolhouse Review)

For the past several weeks we have been reviewing Veritas Press Self-Paced History: Old Testament and Ancient Egypt and the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt Flashcards  from Veritas Press . As we were entering into our more easy-going summer schedule, and had just concluded a two-year Old Testament Bible course, I was happy to try out this product as it appeared to be something that Eli and Brynne could do together, alone, and would act as a review of the Old Testament presented in a different way. And I was right. Each Veritas Press Self-Paced History program includes 160 lessons teaching about 32 events in history. They are designed for children in grades 2-6, and it is recommended that the student be a minimum of 7 years of age at the time of the first lesson. Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.
