The Week Ahead

Last night I was actually able to lay on the couch and enjoy the cool night air. We had a change of wind direction and a drop in temperature and it was wonderful! I was thankful for a reprieve from the sticky heat of our house. But, this week it's supposed to be even hotter, getting up into the mid-90's. So, I need to do things to keep us as cool as possible.

Monday

Schoolwork: Morning work at home before the house heats up.
Housework: Laundry and clean the floors
Activities: Lunch at grandmas and then hitting the pool.
Dinner: Mini meatloaves, quinoa, steamed broccoli

Tuesday

Schoolwork: More morning work at home (will we have more froglets this week?)
Housework: Clean the bathrooms
Activities: Another afternoon at the pool.
Dinner: Crabby patties (salmon patties) from Trim Healthy Mama, mac and cheese

Wednesday

Schoolwork: And more morning work at home (hoping our butterfly larva will be here!)
Housework: Dusting!
Activities: A short time at the pool because Brynne has a softball game in the evening.
Dinner: Cheeseburger pie (from Trim Healthy Mama)

Thursday

Schoolwork: The last school day of the week.
Housework: Let's get that house tidied up.
Activities: Depending on the heat, we might go to the pool for a bit, but Brynne has another softball game.
Dinner: Dinner on the road, sub sandwiches and fruit.

Friday

Schoolwork: None! We sleep in and take the day off!
Housework: Finish up any weekly laundry and get the floors cleaned again.
Activities: Brynne has her last softball game of the season.
Dinner: Roast, potatoes, carrots in the crockpot

We will definitely be doing all of our work in the mornings before the house gets warmed up and then going to the pool to cool off in the afternoons. Other than Monday, we won't be turning on the oven. And even though we shouldn't be swimming on softball game days, we will be craving some cool pool water by afternoon so we're going to go for it anyway.

Rick will be here for the weekend bringing the last moving truck of our stuff. Hopefully he will be able to figure out the central air issue. If not, we'll have a brand new window unit installed by Sunday afternoon.

  1. Yes, it takes planning to avoid the oven and stove in this hot weather! I'm going to put the bread maker out in the verandah tomorrow, and we'll probably put the electric grill out there too to make pancakes in the morning.

By the way, you sound so organized! :)

    1. Ha ha, Annie Kate ... I laughed when I read your last comment! I am really good at the planning phase, but not so good at the implementation! I haven't touched the housework I mentioned, Most of what I plan is wishful thinking. We usually do get our schoolwork done, and our activities are usually pretty accurate, but housework typically falls by the wayside and our meals have got to where they do, too. Tonight my parents invited us over for dinner, so scrap Monday's meal. We'll see if we actually pull out Tuesday's!

      Thanks for commenting!

  2. So glad you had a cool breeze yesterday evening....I'm actually "stressing" about your air conditioning being out. After this length of time, I would have already "lost it" and most likely be in jail.

  3. I hope you're having a great week! I'm sorry I haven't stopped by in a few weeks. It's a combination of not feeling well while keeping busy with 3 kids! I hope you got some AC!

We all know that in this crazy world of homeschooling, we need all the (adult) support we can get. Please leave a comment if you so wish!

ABCya

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . A lot of the games also have Apps available for purchase (99 cents for most of them) for the iPad and iPhone. I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

Last Child in the Woods ~ Chapters 1-4

Welcome to our book study of Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. To be honest, I have no idea what this "study" is going to look like. I imagine that when we get together I will post about all of the things that caught my eye. And I would ask that you leave a comment, or a link to your own blog post in the comment, about what caught yours. This isn't anything formal, ladies, just a place to talk about what we have read. I have now read the first four chapters of Last Child in the Woods two times. It is just so good. Several things have specifically hit me deep, but in general I just realized that "times, they are a changin'." Things aren't the way they were when we were kids. Chapter 1. Gifts of Nature ~ "When I see birches bend to left and right ... I like to think some boy's been swinging them." ~ Robert Frost What is your definition of nature? What feelings, visions, senses does it conjure up? For me, it's not a
