Weekly Wrap-up ~ Some Things to Cheer About

To start off our wrap-up this week, I have to first announce that my daughter, Kyndal, made the varsity football cheerleading squad and competitive squad at her new high school! She has cheered off and on since kindergarten. After all these years she can still throw a round off, back handspring, back tuck. She said it about killed her, but she did it. She was one of 18 chosen out of 40 girls. Pretty good for a student new to the school. She's always been a shining star! I didn't have any doubts she would make it. When she wants something, she just goes and gets it. So proud of you, Kyndal! Can't wait to see you in action next year. We weren't doing back tucks here at home this week, but I am about to flip with excitement that we are getting so close to the end of our school year! We are counting down the days until we are finished with grammar, writing, copywork, math (have I mentioned, say, a thousand times how much I am loving Math Enhancement Programme for Brynn...

Weekly Wrap-Up ~ YAWN!

Getting back into school after a relaxing week-long vacation in Florida. Two dentist appointments for Dawson. Lots of tooth pain. Two field trips. One that was two hours away. Girls and Boys Club on Tuesday afternoon/evening. Practice for children's musical at church on Wednesday night, when we don't normally do anything in the evenings. Birthday party tonight. This was our week. I am exhausted! I have expressed on numerous occasions that we are a homebody family! We don't leave our house unless we have to. Many weeks we have school Monday through Thursday and only leave the house on Friday mornings to go to Co-op. This week was so full of activity that I feel like a ZOMBIE tonight! Lots of traveling. Lots of fresh air. TI-RED! Here's a collage of our lessons and activities at home this week.   1. Brynne finished her very first REAL chapter book. It is from the Puppy Place series, and it had 10 chapters. She is now on Chapter 3 of another book in ...

There's a "Secret" in this "Garden"

Last year I planted two potted tulips, that were on clearance at Walmart (after Easter) and an Easter Lily, in my favorite little spot in our backyard. Everything I read said that these would not come back up this year! I know you cannot see it well, but hidden in the midst of all those weeds are all three flowers fully sprouting! I almost cried when I saw them! Brynne and I are starting a unit on The Secret Garden today. We are planning to cover this unit until the end of April. I got this idea when I read that our local community theatre was doing auditions for "The Secret Garden", a play that will take place that month. That got my wheels turning! I bought the book on cd, by Classic Starts: The Secret Garden . We are going to listen to it and then do TONS of activities! We will do a plant study, build an earthworm habitat , do balloon botany, do flower poundings, make pretties for our garden, plant lots of things, make stone plant labels, make a twig trellis,...
