Homeschool Mother's Journal ~ Moving Week

In my life this week ... I've been back in Oklahoma this week to pack up for our move. I spent every evening running errands. Brynne's birthday was Wednesday, so we spent the whole day celebrating her. We got the moving truck last night and started loading it up at 1:00 today (after Brynne's bowling birthday party), finishing at about 10:00 p.m. I am now in bed wearing a pair of sweats and my husband's t-shirt because everything else, including pj's, are packed.

In our homeschool this week ... Monday afternoon I declared that we would NOT be doing any school until next week. Really, we can only do so much.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share ... When "my yearly schedule plan" doesn't work out already in the first couple of weeks of school, I just need to adjust it and move on. We can take a long Christmas break next year.

I am inspired by ... the joy of 7 year olds bowling.

My favorite thing this week was ... Celebrating Brynne's birthday. She was just so excited all week!

People we are seeing/Places we are going ... This week we tried to see as many friends as possible. We won't be seeing them for a while. We also took our last trip to Big Splash, to Cici's Pizza, to the bowling alley, and on the hill that always gets Brynne's tummy when we drive over it.  

What's working/not working for us ... Obviously doing school work in the midst of a move does not work. Silly me.

Questions/thoughts I have ... We are not going to join a Co-op until after Christmas break. I want us to get into our routine in our new home and town first.

Things I'm working on ... Getting everything together to pretty up my new house! Squeal! Now the fun part can begin!

I'm reading ... The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I don't want to take any books with me from this library, and I haven't gotten a membership at our new library yet. AND we will not have any internet or television for a week. This was a book I have had on my shelf, and I'll read it this week in the evenings.

I'm cooking ... Not a thing. This week, the kids and I will be eating easy stuff that we are bringing from Oklahoma so that we can put off our first big trip to the grocery store until after our next payday. (We might have to splurge on a trip to the Dairy Queen, though.)

I'm grateful for ... Family.

I'm praying for ... my grandma. She had an infection in her arm and has been really out of her head and not feeling well. My mom is really worried about her, hoping that this isn't the start of really bad times for her with her health. She is 89 years old and has been in a nursing home for a year now. I am hoping that I can spend a lot of time with her now that we are moving there. I would love for her to recover so that she and I could play Double Solitaire together.

    What a week you're are going to have! I think you are wise to put off joining co-op until your settled. I see some long relaxing pj wearing homeschool days in your future. You are going to need them.

    A new house to decorate! That's always the fun part of moving!!! You're going to post more pics, right? :)

    I loved The Secret Life of Bees. I don't know why but it reminded me of Dolores Claiborne a little.

    You are on fire! BTDT with multi-tasking school. Why do we think we are superhomeschool mom?? I thought we were going to do paper and book school on our road trip - NOT. It's okay, part of the reason for homeschooling is flexibility in learning!

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.
