Wednesday Hodgepodge

Share a favorite song, book, or movie title containing the word 'green'.

My friend and I used to sing the theme song to Green Acres all the time. I love that song! (Singing it in my head right now.)

Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted as saying, "Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect." Would you agree? Are you a believer in luck?

Deep down I do not believe in luck. I believe God has a plan for each of us and when we are walking on that path it is revealed to us as we go. When our desires are in line with God's plan then we have hopes and dreams that line up with it. So when something good happens, just at the "right" moment, we know that it's God, not luck. Cause and effect definitely come into play here. God isn't going to make things happen for us if we make our own choices away from his plan. But at the same time, if we are wise enough to obey God each step of the way, our obedient actions will give us those results we desire.

Spring water, Hot Springs, handspring, spring fling, spring break, spring fever, offspring ... which 'spring' word best applies to something in your day, week, or life right now?

Oh we are in full-fledged spring break here!! And it's been awesome! We are sleeping in, getting in some good exercise, enjoying some nice weather (although today the temps are supposed to drop and it's supposed to rain). The kids are playing and doing what they want. I am relaxing and doing what I want. We decided not to go anywhere for Spring Break because in 65 days we will be going on vacation. We are saving up for that! This week has been just what we needed. No place to go and nothing to do. And we get to end it with a fun weekend with Rick in Oklahoma.

What's something you do to make yourself look or feel more confident?

Definitely taking control of my body with healthy eating and exercise. Don't we all feel more confident when we are eating nourishing and delicious meals, when our bodies feel energized from exercise (even if a tad bit sore), and when our clothes fit comfortably?

It's National Celery Month ... are you a fan? If so, what's a snack or dish you enjoy that calls for celery?

I have a couple here because I really do like celery. I enjoy celery sticks with pimento cheese spread for a snack. I make a really good baked salisbury steak with celery and green peppers. And my all-time favorite is my crock pot dressing I make during the holidays. Oh, yum!!

What's one thing you wish you'd learned sooner?

To be content with what God has given me and to be patient for His plan for my life. I got married the first time for the wrong reasons. And it has taken me until the last few years to really understand how having less feels like so much more, especially when you're daily sharing that little bit with family.

Would you like to own a second home? If so where would you want that home to be?

I have two separate dreams. One is to someday own a really nice pull-behind camper so that Rick and I can just travel all over the United States. My second dream is to someday own a small home somewhere in the mountains. Then I can visit my parents' house in Florida during the winter and stay in our mountain home in the summer, visiting there again for a couple of weeks in the winter for skiing for Rick and the kids. I want to keep our house we have now to come home to in the Spring and Fall.

Insert your own random thought here.

I am so sore from doing the 21 Day Fix (on Day 3 today). But I absolutely LOVE the workouts and my soreness tells me I am working those muscles that need to be worked! The workouts remind me of the classes I used to take at the Y in Oklahoma several years ago. I love body sculpting and light weights. It makes me feel amazing (or at least I will once the soreness works its way out)!! I have always had a hard time finding a DVD exercise series that I have wanted to stick with, but I think I am going to be doing these routines for a very, very long time. Awesome!

  1. I have been wanting to start doing the T-TAPP exercises. I've seen the results it had for some of my friends

We all know that in this crazy world of homeschooling, we need all the (adult) support we can get. Please leave a comment if you so wish!

ABCya

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . A lot of the games also have Apps available for purchase (99 cents for most of them) for the iPad and iPhone. I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

A Thomas Jefferson Education "This Week in History" ~ Schoolhouse Review

Talk about a GOLD MINE! A Thomas Jefferson Education's This Week in History by Rachel DeMille is her "labor of love" ... and I absolutely LOVE it! " This Week in History is a daily resource that brings your home school or classroom to life." For just $9.99 per month, you can log onto TJEd.com and click the "This Week in History" link to obtain many, many, many resources tied to specific events that occurred in the upcoming week in history. Or even better, you can receive the summaries and links to ALL resources right in your email Inbox each week! It doesn't get any easier than that! What does this really look like in real life? Each week, I receive an email from Rachel DeMille that sets out each date of the coming week. Under the date, there are listed anywhere from one to several events that occurred in history on that date. THEN there are ALL kinds of things to do related to that event, such as books to read, websites to visit, ac

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.
