First Day ~ February

When the first day of the month falls on a Sunday, you get yourself a pretty boring First Day post. After Sunday school, Sundays are a day of rest. This particular Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday, but we don't watch the game. I did make some good lunch items, but that was about it.

Sipping coffee before going to Sunday School.


Just because we all draw a cow differently doesn't
mean it's not a cow. Just because we all have
different opinions in the church doesn't mean
we aren't the church.

A quick stop at the grocery store.

Grabbed gas at this location, in the freezing rain,
before its price jumped up 13 cents a gallon like
the other stations.

A pot of beans simmering for me to eat this week.

And turkey chili for the family.

Had to throw in some queso and chips.

My after church Sunday attire.

The laundry doesn't take a Sabbath.

This family is addicted to Lord of the Rings.

Speaking of addition ... me and my coffee.

Ordered the menfolk bootcut jeans from American
Eagle for Collin and Kyndal's wedding (it's an outdoor
wedding with a rustic lace theme.)

What time is it? Nap time!!

I had to clean out the fridge. It was a disaster! Still
jam packed, but at least organized.

Laying in bed balancing my checking account and
paying bills. No, you don't see Milk Duds.

See, told ya. The rest of the family lounged around all day watching movies and t.v. and playing video games. Rick left early to head back to Oklahoma for the week because the weather turned nasty. Taylar came over after she got off work to hang out with Dawson. I did some lesson planning while the kids showered and got ready for bed. We had cereal for dinner. I blasted through Project Runway All-Stars and the finale of The Biggest Loser that I had dvr'd, and then ended my day reading my book in bed while drinking some chamomile. Quite honestly, I love days like this!

    Sounds like a great Sunday to me, the girls and I just watched the half time show since we LOVE Katy Perry! Hubby watched the whole super bowl.

    I sent you a Words with Friends request you can totally reject it if you only play with family. I'm not good but love the game

We found our groove with math this year. I found a curriculum that both of the kids respond well to and seem to enjoy (as much as one can enjoy math). We have spent the whole year learning the ins and outs of multiplication and were just a few lessons away from being ready to move onto the next year-long level on division. And then an opportunity to review the 12 Month Family Plan from  CTC Math became available. To be honest, I wasn't very enthusiastic. I mean, why mess with the methods that have worked so well? When I was chosen to review the product I didn't go into it with the level of enthusiasm that it deserved. We have been using a dvd/workbook curriculum with great success. Veritas Press Self-Paced History: Old Testament and Ancient Egypt (Schoolhouse Review)

For the past several weeks we have been reviewing Veritas Press Self-Paced History: Old Testament and Ancient Egypt and the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt Flashcards  from Veritas Press . As we were entering into our more easy-going summer schedule, and had just concluded a two-year Old Testament Bible course, I was happy to try out this product as it appeared to be something that Eli and Brynne could do together, alone, and would act as a review of the Old Testament presented in a different way. And I was right. Each Veritas Press Self-Paced History program includes 160 lessons teaching about 32 events in history. They are designed for children in grades 2-6, and it is recommended that the student be a minimum of 7 years of age at the time of the first lesson. Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.
