Weekly Wrap-up ~ NOW We're on Spring Break

In our regular life this week…

We are back to REAL regular life this week. We pulled into our driveway in Missouri at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, after driving straight through overnight for 14 hours. So the rest of this week? It's been all about reconstructing my house, deep cleaning, and even some furniture rearranging. Yeah. After four hours of sleep I woke up on Wednesday morning and decided my bedroom arrangement wasn't working for me. So, I rearranged it. It's a tiny room, so I had to be creative. I made it work, though, and now I just need to buy the finishing touches in decorations. I like it so much better!

In our homeschool this week…

Last week, while we were on vacation in Florida, we had school every day. This week, while we are back home, we are on Spring Break! Yeah, Monday and Tuesday were spent in Florida and we just played those days. Wednesday and Thursday were spent recuperating from our vacation back here in Missouri. And today daddy is here early for Easter weekend, so we are hanging out with him. (I have to admit what a nerd homeschooling mommy I am, though. I am actually looking forward to getting back to schoolwork on Monday! I don't think the kids probably agree.)

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

This has been a special week for us because my sister-in-law, Shawna, and my sweet 5-month old niece, Bell, have been visiting from Portland, Oregon. It has been so great to see them! Bell is growing up so fast and is absolutely precious! I love her so much and am sad they left today. We won't get to see them again until July, and Bell will be 9 months old then! My brother, Tim, will be coming with them, so it will be nice to have them all here together. (By the way, these long spans of time between seeing Bell is one of the reasons I wanted us to move to Missouri. My other baby niece, Ashtyn, is 9 months old and I get to see her every week because we live close. I love seeing her grow up and being so close to her. I wish Bell lived across the street.)

A favorite thing this week was…

Getting all of the O'Neal cousins together for some pictures on Wednesday. My parents have seven grandchildren ages 5 months, 8 1/2 months, 7, 9, 15, 16, and 18. It is very rare to get all of them in one place at the same time, so we got together for a while and took some photos. I'll be posting some of them in a few days.

What's in the kitchen this week ...

Kyndal made cheesy chicken lasagna for us on Wednesday night (yum!) and Dawson brought leftovers home from his job tonight (the perks of being a kitchen boy at the nursing home). The house is pretty empty of groceries, so I went today to get us a few things for a few days. We are having italian chicken spaghetti and then a big turkey dinner on Sunday at mom and dad's for Easter.

What we're reading ...

Mom: I finished the three books I took to Pensacola (man, that was nice!). I am now reading The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin (a historical fiction novel about the life and marriage of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh).
Eli: Captain Underpants (the third epic novel) by Dav Pilkey
Brynne:  Buddy (Puppy Place) by Ellen Miles

Things we're working on…

Enjoying our last few days before we get back to the books on Monday. This weekend we will also being doing all of our Easter activities and coloring our Easter eggs. My husband and I are working on the gardening area of our yard this weekend. It's going to be a huge project but I absolutely cannot wait! We have lived here 7 months and haven't done any landscaping yet. It is a clean slate and I am so looking forward to planing gardens, flowers, bushes, and the like. Come on Spring!!

I’m grateful for…

us finally being rid of our house in Oklahoma. Things didn't turn out quite as we had hoped they would. But, we can now move forward with the next phase of our plans.

I rewarded my kids this week by…

convincing daddy to let us buy tickets to WWE Monday Night Raw LIVE in Tulsa in May!! We have lower level seats and the kids are flipped-out excited to go!! It will be such a fun night because they love WWE so much. It's contagious to watch them be so excited about it. (And seeing John Cena in person won't hurt my feelings that much, either. Eli told me once that if we ever met John Cena that he wanted me to dress really pretty.) I also snagged a deal on some Buy 2, Get 1 Free used Wii games, and got the kids two games they have really been wanting. And one of them was FREE!

  1. What a great week! With everything going on here, I'm more convinced then ever how important connecting with family is. Seeing those little ones and spending time with siblings and parents is REALLY what gets you through the "day".

I'm so glad the millstone of the other house is gone from around your necks. You'll have to post lots of pics once you've done some gardening - your new house sis so cute and I can't wait to see how it looks with some landscaping!

We all know that in this crazy world of homeschooling, we need all the (adult) support we can get. Please leave a comment if you so wish!

ABCya

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . A lot of the games also have Apps available for purchase (99 cents for most of them) for the iPad and iPhone. I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

Last Child in the Woods ~ Chapters 1-4

Welcome to our book study of Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. To be honest, I have no idea what this "study" is going to look like. I imagine that when we get together I will post about all of the things that caught my eye. And I would ask that you leave a comment, or a link to your own blog post in the comment, about what caught yours. This isn't anything formal, ladies, just a place to talk about what we have read. I have now read the first four chapters of Last Child in the Woods two times. It is just so good. Several things have specifically hit me deep, but in general I just realized that "times, they are a changin'." Things aren't the way they were when we were kids. Chapter 1. Gifts of Nature ~ "When I see birches bend to left and right ... I like to think some boy's been swinging them." ~ Robert Frost What is your definition of nature? What feelings, visions, senses does it conjure up? For me, it's not a
