A Note of Encouragement

Gina Suarez from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine included this note in her most recent "The Homeschool Minute" e-mail. I just wanted to share it today as a word of encouragement. I know I felt refreshed when I read it.


Sometimes homeschooling slips into summer because life got in the way of hitting the books. Other times, it's a deliberate decision to keep those kids from forgetting key information or keeping the momentum with newly learned skills. The most important thing when considering your homeschool calendar is to pray about it and get your husband's advice. Here's some more advice about keeping your eyes on Jesus and letting Him direct everything you do . . .

Hey Mama, just wanted to pop in and help you put your eyes on Jesus. He is still on the throne. While the world has gone mad, He is the same, unmovable, unshakable. He is our great and holy God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We get so caught up in the details of our current problems, but God has already worked out EVERY last detail. Do you think your problems surprise Him? If we've already given the problem over to Him, it's in His hands, so why do we keep going back and snatching it back out? By fussing over our issues, do they go away? By allowing ourselves to become completely engulfed in the trials of our lives, not even able to breathe, do we glorify God?

The problems are there. That's right. The trial continues. Yes it does. But say this today with me: Lord, I don't know what to do, but my eyes are on YOU.

Glorify Him today, Mama. Set your eyes on Christ, your Redeemer. He lives. He is not asleep; He misses nothing. He sees it all, and He will un-weave this web. I promise you; He will fix it. Rise up and go about your day, knowing that if you are in Him, you will not be shaken.

I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8 (NASB)

Mama, embrace this day, love on your children, respect and cling to your hubby, obey the Lord in all things, and just . . . walk. He promises to do the rest. Set your eyes continually on Him. You will not be shaken.

    Ya know, I rec'd that email too. But I deleted it bc this is a very busy week and I didn't feel that I had the time to read it. Thank you for posting it, because I DID read it on your blog and I REALLY needed to hear that. Today. Right now.

We found our groove with math this year. I found a curriculum that both of the kids respond well to and seem to enjoy (as much as one can enjoy math). We have spent the whole year learning the ins and outs of multiplication and were just a few lessons away from being ready to move onto the next year-long level on division. And then an opportunity to review the 12 Month Family Plan from  CTC Math became available. To be honest, I wasn't very enthusiastic. I mean, why mess with the methods that have worked so well? When I was chosen to review the product I didn't go into it with the level of enthusiasm that it deserved. We have been using a dvd/workbook curriculum with great success. The 12 Month Family Plan from CTC Math is a web based curriculum. As we have not had a lot of luck with those types of programs, I went into this review with a negative attitude. Veritas Press Self-Paced History: Old Testament and Ancient Egypt (Schoolhouse Review)

For the past several weeks we have been reviewing Veritas Press Self-Paced History: Old Testament and Ancient Egypt and the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt Flashcards  from Veritas Press . As we were entering into our more easy-going summer schedule, and had just concluded a two-year Old Testament Bible course, I was happy to try out this product as it appeared to be something that Eli and Brynne could do together, alone, and would act as a review of the Old Testament presented in a different way. And I was right. Each Veritas Press Self-Paced History program includes 160 lessons teaching about 32 events in history. They are designed for children in grades 2-6, and it is recommended that the student be a minimum of 7 years of age at the time of the first lesson. Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.
