The temps are FINALLY under 100 degrees here in Oklahoma. In fact, it's been in the low 80's all week. So, for Fun Math this past Thursday, Brynne and I got outside!
I drew a number line on our driveway with sidewalk chalk. Then Brynne wrote odd numbers to 20 in blue and even numbers in pink.
We played several math games with it.
First she hopped out the odd numbers and then the even numbers coming the opposite direction.
When she was done doing that, I gave her a piece of paper with an addition or subtraction problem on it. She ran to the answer on the number line, jumped on it, and yelled out the answer. We did about 25 problems this way. (I snuck in some physical education!)
Then she practiced leaping while counting by 3's.
Finally I had her stand on a number and then gave her instructions to hop so many spaces "more than" or "less than" the number she was on.
There was lots of thinking and lots of moving going on.

ReplyDeleteMy youngest always liked doing math like this because it meant he didn't have to try and sit still! :) Looks fun, and I'm glad the temps are cooling off for you!
