Tuesday Coffee Chat

Favorite Things ... What are you loving these days?

On a Tuesday Coffee Chat back in February, where the topic was "Random", I posted some of my favorite things. You can check that list HERE. Those are still some of my faves. But here is a new list:

Topping my list now is my Ninja Master Prep. I love this tool! Blenders and I have had a hate/hate relationship all of my life. I have never been able to find one that worked the way I wanted it to, which is to say that I just want it to blend my stuff for me. I don't need 15 different settings. I just need to put in my ingredients, push a button, and come out with a blended end result. The Ninja Master Prep does just that. It is amazing!! And at Walmart it is only $34 and some change. It's a bargain and works better than anything I have ever used. And, it doubles as a chopper (and comes with a mini-chopping apparatus). Score! I use my Ninja every single day to make my new favorite drink ....

Coffee with blended coconut oil. Oh my. It is such an amazing way to start my day! In fact, at night when I am going to bed I crave that coffee. I brew a pot of Hazelnut coffee, and have a couple of cups as is with liquid stevia and a teaspoon of milk. But when I get down to my last two cups of coffee, I pour all of those ingredients into my Ninja with a teaspoon of melted coconut oil and blend for 15 seconds. It has a creamy, delicious, frothy taste. Delicious!

Speaking of Walmart, I love their Danskin line of workout clothing. It is super inexpensive, comfortable, and perfect for my needs. I have long sleeved yoga shirts, a couple of yoga cardigans, stretch tight-fitted capris, and loose fitting tank tops. My two new favorite tank tops say "Gotta Run" and "Live for the Run". They were $4.96 each. I love these two particular tops so much because my newest craze is ....

Running! Just like becoming a wine drinker, I have always wanted to be a runner. I have run a tad in the past but never made it a priority. The furthest I was ever able to run at one time was a mile. Two years ago I decided I wanted to try to train for a 5K, but slipped and fell one rainy morning and tore a ligament in my knee. That kept me from doing any vigorous exercise for a long time. Then Brynne and I did a little bit of Couch to 5K training last summer, just to get her some exercise. We put it away during the winter. She joined a public school after-school program called Girls on the Run and they are running a 5K on May 2nd. I wanted to run with her but knew I would need to train more seriously for it. So I picked up on my C25K app and continued on. Just a little over a month ago I couldn't run 5 minutes straight without being very much out of breath and miserable. Just this past Friday, I ran 3.1 miles straight. I am addicted to running! It's like water ... the more you drink it, the more you crave it. That's how I feel about running. I crave the high of a run. I am so excited to run in the May 2nd 5K and have already registered for another one at the end of August.

I think part of my build up of stamina and success also comes from participating in the 21 Day Fix. I purchased the dvd's from Beach Body and Kyndal and I have been working out to them for the past month. We have loved the program so much that we started another round yesterday. At the end of the first round Kyndal lost 3.4 pounds and 4.5 inches. I lost 2.4 pounds and 3.5 inches. We are both so much stronger than we were the first week. We love the workouts!!

If you have read my blog for long you know that I am a t.v.aholic. I love my prime time television shows! I am particularly enjoying two shows right now. The first one is Secrets and Lies with Ryan Phillippe (Reece Witherspoon's ex-husband) and Juliette Lewis. Oooh! It's a good one!

I also am loving the new season of Call the Midwife on PBS. Such good television.

I think that's about it for now. Well, except for these. Anything with color is my favorite!

  1. Proud of you. I feel like I've been sitting on my couch with my glass of wine watching you transform and become a healthy, fit, hot mama. ;) You inspire me!

There's a new season of CTMW!? I had on idea. I need to get on that.

    1. Yes! And I think I even like it better than when Jenny was on it.

  2. I need to kick up my exercise regime. I love the workouts I have been doing -- the tone it up series; but I have reached a plateau and need to kick start my body again. I can't run - my knees won't handle it right now, but I should check out the other you mentioned.
Coconut and coffee!!!! why didn't I think of that!! I am totally trying that tomorrow morning :)

I have heard that Secrets and Lies is good - I'll have to check it out one night.

  3. Yay! Another tv-aholic! I answered your Secrets and Lies question on my blog, but wanted to come back and ask you who YOU think killed Tom? I thought Matty did it at first (by accident), but now I'm not so sure. I'm also a bit suspicious of Dave, though the show hasn't pointed that direction at all. Or Maybe it's Christy's mysterious "client"? Every week I think it's someone different. No one really had motive.

I need to take up running - I know if I can get in the habit I'll be just as addicted as everyone else. And in better shape!

It's been fun chatting with you!

ABCya

Eli's reading resource teacher shared a website with me yesterday that I would like to pass along. It's called ABCya . There are separate educational sections with fantastic games for ages kindergarten through 5th grade. I browsed the 2nd grade level, and it includes age-appropriate games about Letters, Numbers, Shapes, Geometry, Patterns, Mouse Manipulation, Art and Holiday games. There are lots and lots of fun and creative games for children to play. They are fun, but oh, so educational. Eli's favorite, in his short time playing it, was Create a Car . A lot of the games also have Apps available for purchase (99 cents for most of them) for the iPad and iPhone. I have been looking for another free website for games similar to Starfall , for some time. I think I have found it. I can feel confident having Eli and Brynne play these games.

Cells ~ It's What's for Dinner

Dawson made edible cells on Friday. He made an animal cell pizza ... and a plant cell chocolate chip cookie ... He reviewed what he's learned about cells the past two weeks, and I had dinner made by someone else. Win, win!! I am linking up at Science Sunday at Adventures in Mommydom.

Last Child in the Woods ~ Chapters 1-4

Welcome to our book study of Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. To be honest, I have no idea what this "study" is going to look like. I imagine that when we get together I will post about all of the things that caught my eye. And I would ask that you leave a comment, or a link to your own blog post in the comment, about what caught yours. This isn't anything formal, ladies, just a place to talk about what we have read. I have now read the first four chapters of Last Child in the Woods two times. It is just so good. Several things have specifically hit me deep, but in general I just realized that "times, they are a changin'." Things aren't the way they were when we were kids. Chapter 1. Gifts of Nature ~ "When I see birches bend to left and right ... I like to think some boy's been swinging them." ~ Robert Frost What is your definition of nature? What feelings, visions, senses does it conjure up? For me, it's not a
